Skill Enhancement Program Through Product Development Training in Bojonegoro, East Java

After the first product development training program was conducted in 2017, In collaboration with Association for Community Empowerment (ACE), Pekerti implemented an advanced product development  program. This program aims to improve the skills of previous trainees. This training need to be done based on the results of quality checked of the trial order given after the first training session that is still not good. In addition to providing product-making skills, this training also teaches artisan about quality control so that when making the products should pay attention to the point that can make a product less good in quality.

To help improve the skill of felt artisans, Pekerti invites felt entrepreneurs from Bojonegoro, Mintorowati the owner of Rumah Kreasi flanel “myfelt”. The artisans produced various kinds of animal designs with different functions such as key chain, puppet, pencil topper and tote bags. As for the patchwork artisans, in this training they create a bag with assistance from Indriyani Dwi Astuti, she is a bag business owners named “EFTRI”. Some of bag design is still repeating the product made in the first training to produce the product in better quality. Nevertheless, the artisans are also given new designs that they have not previously made.

Training was attended by 10 women felt artisans and 10 women patchwork artisans. The artisans produced various kinds of animal designs with different functions such as key chain, puppet, pencil topper and tote bags. As for the patchwork artisans, in this training they create various  bag design.

Positive Outcome of Project

(1) The skills of old participants (who took part in the first training) improved as seen by the quality of the products produced much better than the quality of products of last year’s training.

(2) After the training ended, one of the felt artisan participant transfer her skills to make professional finger puppets for kindergarten teacher and other community in the local educational activities of PAUD in the Baureno district, Bojonegoro.
