40 albasia (Parasenanthes Falcataria / Albizia Falcatara) trees planted symbolically as manifestation of Pekerti’s involvement in environmental conservation.
Different from previous years, Pekerti as a pioneer of Fair Trade movement in Indonesia, held a celebration of World Fair Trade Day in Bogor, West Java. This time Pekerti expand the scope of World Fair Trade Day activities with its producer partners from Bali and Lombok, Pekerti held World Fair Trade Day 2010 celebration in Bali.
With the theme “create in diversity” Pekerti invites its producer partners originating from Bali and Lombok to engage in environmental conservation programs hold by Pekerti through planting 300 albasia (Parasenanthes Falcataria / Albizia Falcatara) trees activity in Bali as the main event of World Fair Trade Day celebration. In addition to getting seeds from Pekerti, these activities also received assistance from the seedlings PPLH (environmental education center) in Bali as much as 300 seedlings used to replace part in planting trees before but did not grow.
Activities conducted on land owned by relatives of Pekerti’s producers, I Made Sujana, in Tampak siring attended by 28 artisans Pekerti along with their staff from the eighth group of artisans in Bali and Lombok. The event was held right on the day of WFTD 2010, May 8, 2010.
“I invite my friends, who may have such land can be cultivated like this land, to be involved in the program Pekerti.” Pak Sujana said in his speech. He hoped that these activities can be done in many places so that environmental sustainability can be maintained.
In this occasion also Pekerti honored with the presence keynote speaker, I Made Suarnatha, founding member of NGO environmental preservation, the Wisnu foundation in Bali.
“Every year Bali lost of 1000 m2 of land to be converted into tourism activities, so that the tree planting movement initiated by Pekerti is very well as awareness efforts of environmental conservation, especially for producers and people of Bali in general ” Mr. Suar said. Tree planting activities is the realization of the program “a tree for $ 1,500 turnover” which Pekerti have been proposed in the year 2009. “This activity needs to be echoed by other institutions, so there is a balance between the use of timber and forest conservation” Mr. Suar appreciate Pekerti activities.
This series of events is then covered with albasia (Parasenanthes Falcataria / Albizia Falcatara) tree planting as many as 40 trees by all participants to complete a tree that was planted earlier. This activity also became the top series of training events held Pekerti for producers who are in Bali and Lombok. Fair Trade Training, SFTMS socialization, gender training, as well as administration and quality control training held at Puri Nusa Indah, Denpasar, Bali on 5 to 7 May 2010.
